Yes, that is my logical conclusion as well. Time travel seems to be a myth perpetrated by the same school of thought that says everything is pre-destined to happen in a certain way, so that when God set the universe in motion, there is only one stream of events that could possibly happen. JustaCarpenter was arguing that viewpoint a few posts back in his blog. If that were true, then time travellers would be part of the inevitable stream of events, and need not worry themselves about changing history.
But I do not believe that. Free choice and Chaos Theory are my conuterpoints. The future cannot be predetermined as long as life is part of the universe, for we living things are very unpredictable! I don't even know what I am going to type on the next line here. How about...nothing!

what I think...
If time travel were possible at all you would think that going into the future or coming from the future would be impossible because the future has not happened yet.

A solipsist, eh?
Well I am glad you saw fit to imagine me! LOL
It could be, and this is my working theory, that the more advanced network of civilizations in the universe has adopted a "hands off" policy toward planet-bound folk like us. Otherwise, we would have already been invaded or officially contacted. If we can manage to propel ourselves to the next star, then we will be worthy of attention. That was from "Star Trek", but they stole the idea from me!

hella good blog sweet golden you've got my thoughts
pointing all different ways like a sea urchin...my favorite way to be... I think about time travel and i feel like i would have to put not just a thinking cap on but a whole stinking thinking outfit...i hope to have energy for that soon.
I have trouble buying into any human thought mainly because we know so little.
When I like to take it easy on myself i turn to the comfort of solipsism...the philosophy that claims the self is the only true reality (me) and the rest of the universe is my imaginary oyster.
There seems to be an imbalance of a vague and subtle nature in general in the air. It really feels like somethings gotta give. And soon. I was really hoping that the SETI sound that got everyone all excited a couple months back was real. Imagine, Talk about a world wide reality check. I think we need a jolt like that to get us back to the basics for a lil while...lovin ya macdaddy!!!

I just looked at the website closer myself
You might know they are selling a book about it. But if Mr. Titor went back to the future, then who is getting the money? Silly me -- the guy who started the whole hoax, of course.
On the website, I found another message that tells us of Mr. Titor's fate:
"I have received permission from my superiors to send you this one communiqué. I believe that it is time to put the saga of John Titor to rest once and for all. I too am from the future and am an officer in the Temporal Fraud Division, of the Chronology Bureau.
Let me state to you right now that "John Titor" is a real person, although this is not his actual name. We of the future have strict laws governing time travel, for the obvious reasons, and Mr. Titor has broken these laws. We do the best we can keeping track of those who would use time travel to their own advantage or to dupe those of earlier times. However every now and then one of these criminals does manage to elude us for a time.
This felony in our time is rather akin to the problem you are having with Identity Theft in your time. Instead of stealing identities however, these people are literally stealing your time. I hope you understand the unbelievable damage that a person form our time, knowing every single detail and fact of your time could do. Mr. Titor has been apprehended and was dealt with according to our laws. He shall not be bothering you again. You were lucky this time. This will be the one and only communication you shall receive from me.
Sincerely,
Mano Detrium TFD"

That was interesting.
I spent a couple of hours reading through the site. Many of his comments caught my attention, especially this quote:
“Real disruptions in world events begin with the destabilization of the West as a result of degrading US foreign policy and consistency. This becomes apparent around 2004 as civil unrest develops near the next presidential election.”
As for time travel…I suppose anything is possible…as long as it is within the law.

Neither would I, even if it were possible. I would like to go back and correct some the stupid mistakes I have made myself, but even that would drastically change the circumstances of my current life, and of those people around me.

If we ever did develop such technology, it would be wonderful from a historical point of view to answer the great mysteries (What happened to the dinosaurs? What happened to Virginia Dare? Was there really someone on the grassy knoll? Who really killed Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman? Well, never mind about that one. We already know the answer to that.). But the second we try to change things, we may do more harm than good. By going back in time to prevent the assination of President Lincoln, we could set in motion a series of events that prevent Mr. and Mrs. Einstein from meeting and thus littlt Albert is never born. Okay, that may be a little far fetched, but look at our own lives as examples. By changing an event, either preventing it or altering it for a more favorable outcome would subsequently change all events that happened after it. Without a sugarcoating, most times, even the worst things that happen to us result in something positive in some way. If we alter/prevent/change that bad thing, we erase the good thing. Maybe that would be for the best, maybe not, but would you be willing to take that chance? I wouldn't.

I think you have the most likely explanation. Or it is just another trickster trying to create another urban legend for us to amuse ourselves talking about.

I think I have read similar things. That one can sometimes psychically or spiritually view future periods of one's own life or other's lives. But poor rational me cannot understand how anything can be viewed which
has not happened yet!I also cannot begin to accept the chaos that would be possible if we could go BACKWARD in time and mess with it. No safeguards or rules would be strong enough to stop criminals and power-hungry psychopaths from going back and stealing, or setting up their own little kingdoms, thus totally changing the timeline.

Hmm
Well, as far as I know most who can do it don't go and see some historic big world picture most times. It's like you get this time travel bus station at certain parts of your own life. You can travel to and from that time/station throughout the various ages of your life. Often the bus station rests at some crisis point...
This may be just heavy speculation.

i think this post was just by some guy upset about the Bush victory, or apparant victory depending on when in nvember it came out, and gives perdictions that any disgrultled politico could make. hell, i thought we were setting up a Roman Preatorian gaurd witht he Patriot act, but that hasn't panned out. this one just got lucky on the big event prediction. although this reminds me of a theory (joke)i told about the midterm elections where the right gained over the 2000 election, that in 2000 the y2k crowd was still underground, but by 2002 they had started poking thier heads out and that by 2004 there would be more than enough out to win the election. i should hire a polling company or something?

Psychic time travel?
I have read of this in a few places. One was the former top-secret "remote viewing" program conducted for many years by the US Army. That is quite a story in itself. I am ready to accept that the participants THOUGHT that they were experiencing time-travel. But sadly, there is no way to verify it.
Do you think that the psychic time-travel you are referring to is merely observation, like watching TV, or is it actual participation?

I've thought about this topic a lot.
I too agree that if we lost a few million or billion that might just help stabilize the carrying capacity of the world. Arg. We're a race of capitalistic procratinators. "I'll make it safe and better when I can get all the bills paid and some money in the bank."
Okay, and here's where I get even crazier. I think many of us can time travel...only no machines required. You go. You journey. Really. It's not that hard. Simple really. Just getting over the freaking fear of it all.
