This post reminds me of my eldest son who, as a baby, never had naps of more than 5 minutes long. He was always the most active of my boys and still is, there is a lot of pent up energy there. Nowadays (he is 16) he puts himself to bed when he's tired and tends to sleep in till all hours. Go figure...

Hi IsSanitynear!!

I'm wondering if the name has anything to do with it? My son Taylor (now aged14) NEVER slept as a baby, never EVER had a nap as a toddler and to this day is always the last one awake in the house. The only problem with this was that he didn't like to be the only one awake in the house...so hubby and I would have to draw straws as to who got to go to bed...and who had to stay up pretending to watch tv while we waited for Taylor to become tired enough to sleep. Even when he WAS asleep....the minute we turned off the tv and crept blearily down the hallway...up he would jump and say clear as a bell "I can't sleep!"...almost like a reflex!!! He has recently had the good grace to drag his mattress out to the family room in front of the tv and told us benevolently that we can go to bed....he will just watch tv for a while. We humbly accepted this most precious gift.....however we come out every morning to find him snoring, remote control firmly in hand and tv still blaring! Oh well....at least we are getting a few hours sleep now!! LOL!

The upside to all this is that he is extremely intelligent and apparently when one is so intellectually endowed, one cannot help one's inability to switch off such a great and active brain. Give me an average child who appreciates their sleep anyday!! Tired

I think naps are wasted on the young. I think only people over the age of 30 should be permitted to take naps.
My son sounds like your youngest. He'll swear up and down he's not tired and keep pushing himself, like he's afraid if he closes his eyes he's going to miss something drastic, then if he sits down for about 2 minutes, he's out like a light. (But HE'S NOT TIRED!)
