I think you are right. The ego fights for its survival by the second…not by the day.

You're absolutely right. We all do fall prey to it. And to approach each day as if it is your last is a great approach, though the ego will make it difficult to remember to do that each day.

I think that from time to time, we all fall short of this one. Pride (a root of ego) is the father of judgment. Purging our systems of judgment is a very difficult and sometimes even a very painful thing to do (the ego does not want to die). I am beginning to understand the depth of what it means to say, “live each day as though it is your last”. If one accepts that this is (or very wll could be) their last day…how much time will one spend working for tomorrows? Or for things or causes that do not matter?
