Spirtfire, isn't that sad?
I think we are all becoming a bit desensitized to it all...

This doesn't surprise me a bit. (Unfortunately.)
I guess I've become immune to expecting such things.

Yes, I agree Amateur. It has only heightened the perception.
One small change and one man cannot undo it, but many small changes from the many can.    We all play a part.

To be brutally frank...

Americans (i.e. US citizens) have long been perceived to be egocentric and pushy in this part of the world. In fact, the maxim that sums up the American psyche, acoording to one of my ex-colleagues who studied in the West, is: "America = The World; The World = America"

I guess the manner in which Mr Bush implemented his policies for the past few years intensified such perceptions. Hence, changing such negative perceptions may involve more than a change in the stance of the leadership.

HolyG, yes I agree that this is true.

Of course I'd like to deny it, but we all have played a part.    We'd like to think that it has nothing to do with us-- but it does.     Our choices are so powerful.

I think we've been considered the big bully on the block for awhile, but it has certainly intensified greatly in the last 3 years!

And that is not as bad as it gets

I know, Rach. It's a pretty unnerving thought. Our leaders speak for us.
Our leaders represent our voice to one another.  Our leaders are our voice to the world.

That's scary!!

I guess we never know how Americans are being perceived, and it's scary to wonder what they must think of us when our "leader" is considered a bully!
