I'm showing my utter ignorance by asking this,

but it is spring there now? (I imagine when geography and the like was being taught, I was writing in my journal...)

Rain Free places to walk are nice..
My husband walks in big circles inside the parking deck at work almost every day. Sure, the scenery is really boring, but rainy weather doesn't faze him there. He has an mp3 player and headphones, so he bops along to his favorite tunes for half an hour. The scenery doesn't matter to him if he has fast music to listen to. Sometimes I join him and we race by speedwalking.
Personally, I enjoy walking around our neighborhood when the weather is nice. Our dog enjoys that too. If my husband had to deal with bad weather though, his walking would be majorly curtailed by all of the hurricanes that have passed nearby and dumped rain on us. If I were smart, I'd find a local YWCA that has a walking track. If there is a college nearby, you might see if their fitness center includes an indoor track. Usually they have a rubbery surface that is very springy to walk on.
Keep up the good work! My husband has lost 120 lbs in the last two years while using the Atkins way of eating. It seems like a lot, but it's a very slow process for him. Many months we don't see any change on the scale, but his waist and hips show inches lost. Any positive progress is good!

suo - I hate water too. Still have to work out a way to drink more. My motivation was not being able to fit into my clothes and not having the money to buy more. Besides I hate that uncomfortable feeling I get when I have the spare tyre around my middle. Walking before breakfast is doing me the world of good, coupled with weight training a couple of days a week. I trying to eat healthily rather than less. Hope you enjoy the posts!

I MUST start walking again...
I managed to lose 16 kilograms purely through walking ever day and eating sensibly as well as FORCING myself to drink lots of water (Yuck!! Hate it!!). All it took was a week of rain followed by the flu (2 years ago) to put a halt to what had become an addiction (I thought). Suddenly I couldn't motivate myself to get up at 5am to walk....then things that I had lost the desire for, such as pastries and iced coffees.....didn't seem to do any harm. Then the water didn't taste half as good as Pepsi Max! Yikes....2 years on, I have put all 16 kgs back on and more!!! I keep telling myself I refuse to be fat and forty....but I'd better get a move on....I've got 5 months to go! Help! Perhaps reading your journal will help inspire me.
