It seems to be a process glitch. After I couldn't see the html box, I changed the template back to basic, saved it, then changed it back again to html, and there the box was again!

We have reviewed your account. When you click "Change template", click "Custom" and click "Save Changes", you should see a box containing the HTML.
Could you try it again, in case it was a temporary glitch of some kind? If it still doesn't work, please let us know and we will investigate further.

Okay, I changed to custom template, so the box with the html, clicked "save," and then when I went back to it, there's no box! In other words, when I click on "change template" now, there's just a blank page. Are those html commands hiding somewhere ELSE now?

Yes, you will still be able to edit your posts easily, without using HTML.

If I change the template to "custom," will I from then on have to use html code for everything, or will I still be able to use the convenient editing program? Will my blog still look the same, except that I'll be able to add the links?

Links
To add links, click Write, click "Edit" next to your blog's name. Then, click "Change template", click "Custom" and click "Save Changes".
On the template editing page, scroll down until you see "Main</a>". You can add links by copying and pasting the following piece of text after "Main</a>, replacing the information in quotes with the site's address and replacing "Blogging Network" with the name of the site:
<br><a href="http://www.bloggingnetwork.com/">Blogging Network</a>
