I think we Americans need to be presented with as many intelligent points of view as possible, especially now. I live deep in the Bible/Rightwing Belt, and it terrifies me how homogenous our political beliefs are becoming since 9/11. It's becoming a culture of mindless obedience and conformity steeped in fear.
You sound intelligent, articulate, and tentatively passionate about your ideas. You have great credentials. I see no reason why you shouldn't pursue whatever changes you want to make. Plus, we need alternative political visions to remind us there are viable alternatives to the current administration's politics. Go for it!
