Flexibility is a good word to use. If one is rigid rather than flexible, then everything one does (living, loving, etc.) will be rigid as well.

I agree with that. The Bible should be taken as a "living" entity; which would allow its words and meanings to evolve with the times. People should allow it to be as their lives are:
flexible. If they don't allow for it, and take it literally, then their lives are a reflection of it.
