yep
the god we see is someone's construct.
a people's god is a good god -- good for the people who have the god.
remember each society's god was good and others were bad.
it's just that the Judeo-Christian god has prevailed, so it's our good god.
that's what people want ot believe at the expense of reality.

truth like everything else
just is
and yet more than anything else
just isn't
we live and move and have our being
in only partial truth.

Carp

You'll have to define "truth" before anyone can answer your question.

Witty

Got a question…did man create The Truth or did The Truth create man?

Jesus and God are One in the same..."this I know, for the Bible tells me so!"

my 2c
history is written by the victors.
so what is good and what if evil is defined by who's prominent.
so Ba'al is a bad god.
If Ba'al had prevailed, then Yahveh would have been a bad god.
And Jesus would be the son of Ba'al.
Only thing, these all are simply human concepts and attempts at defining the divine.
Whatever name you give them, the concepts prevail.
they have to personify good and evil in order to lay the blame on someone else.
we all think we're good but we're not, not a one of us.
like the cartoons and such -- there's the angel on the one shoulder and the devil on the other -- all the time.

Interesting theory.  However, good and evil are more-or-less defined by man, meaning that doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a balance.

Sorry, just playing devil's/god's advocate.  ;-)

I loved the name Damien, but after the movie there was no way I was going to call any of my boys by that name!

My eldest was almost a Damien.  In the end he was a Dominic.  Another name under consideration was Daniel.  I think I just had a pregnancy fixation on D names.

I like the name Damien too. I guess, I will have to name my next Doberman this. I couldn't give it to a child because so many evil things are assoicated with it. Dam that movie- ruining a good name.

You have made some fine points, but
since I haven't a clue, I will leave my opinion out of this one. I am not that knowledgeable about this idea and cannot challenge you or safely agree. It is a good argument though.

Witty, I read recently where more scrolls were found and they were

the types read in the temples by Jews on the Sabbath.  They actually substantiate much of what is already written in the Old Testament.

Yes I know, Ariala.  But the references were CHANGED later.  I can't remember who changed them, but it's documented.  Lots of biblical references were changed.  Very little of it is the same as it was when it was written.  Apart from anything else, a lot was lost in interpretation over the years.  Have you ever seen a LITERAL bible?  It's totally nonsensical!

IF YOU'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT MY HUSBAND THAT WAY YOU
COULD AT LEAST INCLUDE ME  (man, it's hot as HELL in this house!)

Witty, Satan IS spoken about in the Old Testament. I think it's in the

book of Isaiah.

No, I don't believe in the mythical devil with pitchfork and horns.  That sounds more like the horned god of the Celtics, if you ask me.

Ariala
Ah yes, but as far as I am concerned, MAN created Lucifer, and also God!  There was no Satan in the Old Testament, he was added later.  Someone probably realised that god seemed a bit on the sadistic side, so they had to quickly think of a way round it, hence good old Sate.  Tell me, do you believe he has horns and a forked tail and all the rest of it?

witty "the devil inside, the devil inside, every single one of us the
devil inside"  --INXS  Yes, I have considered this in my mind wanderings, definately an option.  Makes sense on the inside, but a little difficult to explain!  Glad you understand!

Yeah, if he likes warming his tootsies.  The fire's getting really hot now.

posted by Witty_Woman on October 10, 2004 at 9:08 AM | link to this | reply

Well, I can see why anyone would come to this conclusion. If you think

about it, God created all things, including Lucifer, who later fell from God's graces and became Satan.  Sometimes when bad things happen we're not sure if God caused it or Satan. Humans never know who should be blamed.  In the end, God gets all the blame because He could have prevented this whole mess by not creating it.

See, I can be objective and argue the other side.

Witty, can I bring my Chihuahua? He is the lapdog of Satan!

posted by Kelli on October 10, 2004 at 9:05 AM | link to this | reply

Actually, you know, you could be onto something there.  Maybe we are all god, the devil and us rolled into one.  Makes sense if you think about it.  I think I am in devilish mode today, the god part is taking a back seat.  He does that on Sundays though, he always has.  Lazy devil, that god.

Ooh, be careful, Kelli.  There are those who will say I am the devil sucking you in.  Hee-hee ... WELCOME MY CHILD.  The fire is burning brightly, DOOOOOO come and warm your tootsies.

witty, this could very well be true! An Omnipotent Regulator. Maybe
God, Satan AND ME are the same person?  (Sorry, I'm on a tangent with myself/god and the devil recently and your posts are looking miiiighty attractive today!)  Take care
