I don't know about the diamond, but I rather imagine that was added for the sake of the film. I do seem to remember reading somewhere once that there was something significant on the boat, but when things like this happen, there always tend to be stories circulating like this, so it's hard to know for sure. I think there's a record somewhere of exactly what was on it. There's certainly a passenger list on the net, I've seen that.

Was it true what the story of the Titanic told, about the huge diamond being thrown into the ocean? I also heard recently, that they were carrying the mummy of a cursed Egyptian Royal tomb on that boat.
