Good points!

Very interesting to hear it from a teacher's point of view.  I agree the ADD meds have been overused and too much relied upon.  Maybe the interactive video games counteract what I heard from a teacher of the earlier generation:  watching television all the time made the kids used to just receiving, having everything wash over them with no active participation.  The American family is in crisis. . .

One of my nieces quit teaching because she couldn't stand it.  The first graders sat around in beanbag chairs and had no sense of order or authority.  When my mother-in-law suggested they need to sit at a desk, learn to keep quiet and pay attention, etc., the niece said, "You don't understand, Grandma.  That's the old way.  There are new ways to teach now."  'Nuff said.

the self-esteem thing

was really oversold to these kids.  Educational theories changed during the echo boomer's childhood and they were not for the better.  Whole Language left an entire generation of kids illiterate; the kids coming to me as freshman had not gotten the public education I got and were clueless as to the relevance of fact to argument.  The quick, flashing feedback of computer games and music videos have damaged attention spans: how can it be that every kid is on meds for  attention deficit?  I really hurt for this generation and for the next because the schools are not doing their jobs and parenting is informed by pop psychology instead of instinct.  A mess...

Isn't that the truth!!
It should be interesting to watch.  I liked finding out about it because it proved to me once again that everything changes.  That's why there is always hope.

I have experienced that impatient generation at the office. They want the car the house and it all right now.
