- Go to Is Writing a 'Proper Job'?
There's no such thing as a "proper" job. Just a job. If you make money doing something, it's a job. Period. End of discussion. And if you make a lifelong thing out of it, it becomes a career.
Does anyone ever use the phrase "a proper career?"

Well done Witty! The fact that creative careers like writing and visual arts are so underpaid can partially be blamed on the attitude that they are not real jobs. I'm not sure if that will ever change.

Thank you so much for the flower. It spoke volumes. I will press it between the pages of the nearest book.

Good question! I honestly don't remember, it was over a quarter of a century ago! (Yes, I am that old - the 'toddler' in question will be 27 in a couple of weeks - that's years of course, not months). I would imagine if she was anything it would have been one of those people serving the coffee or making the cups.

You showed her! By the way, did she ever mention what her "real job" was? If she even had one at all?
