Thanks Jimmy,
My students are all from low-income families, and all from other countries.  I see it every day.

AJ

I was at ISU in '82 & 99-00.

Sorry I'm not too well-connected.  Did you go there too?

Uncle Kermit!!!

My uncle filled in one year at ISU for a professor on sick-leave (brain tumor), but that was back during the 1973-74 year.  When were you there?

Have you heard of a professor (now retired) named Morrie Mericle?

He and his wife are very good friends of my uncle and me, even though we're all divided by distance now.

Best wishes with your coffeehouse.  Sounds like a great place to hang out!

Peace!
AJ

Welcome aboard the good ship Blogit...
I wish I could stop by the coffee bar, particularly since caffeine and nicotine are the last of my vices... by the way, the comment you left in my post was one of (if not THE) best descriptions of poverty I've ever heard or read. I am glad that you were able to remain upbeat, having a smile for everyone and accepting the world as it is are valuable in a way that money can't buy. Poverty is systemic in this nation, we have the widest divergence in per capita income between rich and poor of any developed nation, and those on top want to keep it that way. The reason I am majoring in Sociology is that I too have been poor (though largely through my own poor choices), and still am if you consider that we're living job to job. I'm one of the lucky ones, and I started out with certain advantages in the game as well, I would like to contribute to a lessening of that gap for my sons generation....again, welcome aboard...

I am too far from IA,
but it sounds like a great time. I knew a folk singer once, Gary Green, he was cool. Take care Mike!

Thanks for the kind words!
Anybody up for a song?  "...Along, long time ago, I can still remember how the music used to make me smile..."  Take it!

Were hooked.
You're so quirky with such an unusual beat. Must me the band man in you. Your as catchy as any of the great songs you play. I'm ready for the next set.

If Iowa wasn't so far away, I'd give it a chance and have a night out in your town. I'd even wear my friday nights best. I'm not sure what that may entail, but what the heck, its Iowa, right? Hehehe
