I don't know how to work with html, so...I have an ugly blog site.  However, I was able to easily choose a pretty template on another site.......but there's no traffic.  It's very lonely over there.  I love it here, ugly or not!

I'm with beachbelle, really.  Yes, the Verdana font is crap, and yes, you can read blogs for free elsewhere...but you don't get paid for writing blogs elsewhere.  And since everyone is capable of making their subsciption money back through writing, reading blogs on Blogit is essentially free anyway.

It is definitely not as cool as a lot of blog sites

but the paying thing works well for me. The site is also not kind to anyone who uses Macs - ie not user friendly so I must rely on content alone.

I like the Arial font too, but if I had to mess with my page every time I wanted to post, I think that would get tiresome. I'll just leave it alone for now. But good for you for taking the time to customize your page!!

It's not Verdana in the box you type in no, but it comes out that way if you don't alter it.  As I type this it's Times New Roman, but when I enter it, it will mysteriously change to Verdana in the comments box unless I alter it.  Watch and see!

I know because I always switch to Verdana before posting. So I think that depends on you web browser settings.

While I think your post was well written and had a few points that I need to consider re: the layout, I actually don't mind the blogit template. I know there is not a lot of room for a lot of whiz bang stuff, but I actually find the original template visually appealing - it's the old saying of less is more. While I think there could be a few more options for the right hand side - "extra bits column", the main template is is easy to read and navigate - you need white space to read all the stuff that people write. There are some templates on here that, with all the font changes and background changes are too busy to focus on what the writer is trying to say. However, I have not been to any of the other blog sites, so I am probably a little naive in that respect and should check out a few more places.

On the paying to write issue, I actually don't mind it. I like the idea that you are paying something akin to a magazine subscription that will allow you to earn some of your subscription back! It also means that there is some semblance of control over the webspace (although some would argue there is too much control).
