Bravo!
Speaking as a non-American, I am both delighted and surprised to see this from an American citizen.  Very few Americans will speak out like this.  I think if more Americans knew how they were viewed by the rest of the world (which many do not even realise exists by all accounts!), they might be rather shocked to say the least.  This is not the fault of the individual American of course, it is the fault of the governments and the education system.  Whether the forthcoming election can change any of that I have no idea, but if it can then you should all use your votes very wisely.  It may not be this time, but there will come a time when the future of the entire world will depend on it.

Good job, Westwind!
Whatever American decide to do, we should all have this information in our heads when we do!

american responsibility

I wonder what it will take for Americans to realize that we may be at least partially responsible for this hate.  We look at the rest of the world with self-rightous indignation.  They are either with us or against us.  In this supposedly civilized country we have resorted back to our basic instincts.  Fear has taken hold of sound judgement.  I ask the question, "how can America always be right?"  There is great responsibility in the act of war.  We must look at the big picture.  We cannot stand alone against the world.  We may be a great nation but many great nations before us have fallen with the mentality we are now using.  This has become America's holy war and it is a very dangerous path.  We must escape this mindset.  We have a right and a responsibility to question our govenment.  What legacy will we leave to future generations if we do not?  Our current course can only lead to more terrorism, alianation, and unparralled economic debt.

Yet people will call us traitors for pointing out the history of US policy.
We have been bullies ever since Teddy Roosevelt got it in his head that we have to "liberate" nations so that we can occupy them.  It doesn't work. And now we reap the fruits of 100 years of harming and exploiting lesser nations.  All empires fall. We can chose the way we fall---hard on our heads, or with grace.  Terrorism is evil, but it is our child, born of anger and ignorance.
