So, now are you going to spend your four cents on a new pencil?
Being read is a great motivation to write more. In the real world, so few people understand the need to write.

a writer is simply who I am, too :) xx.

I did actually look at some photos of New Orleans while I was reading the stories, so I could get an image in my mind, and it looks a very atmospheric place, which somewhere has to be for me. I would love to visit, but unfortunately I'm a little too far away!

absolutely correct
Writing is this mysterious compulsion for me. I am miserable when I can't do it. But sometimes I am equally miserable when I can. It is exhausting, draining. It is of me, yet not of me at all. And as far as being a paid writer--what rot! Some of the greatest voices in literature went to their graves penny poor, like Melville. Moby -Dick was rediscovered in the 30s, nearly a century after Melville labored over it. There is a tremendous difference between someone with a sensitive gift and someone who writes no more than adequately, yet pounds out pablum for Cosmo or Ladies Home Journal. The best writers are in the little magazines, the journals, and they pay in copies.
Glad you like my Ghosts blog in travel. New Orleans is unlike anywhere in the US. Come on down and visit. I'm going to try to include photos in my Ghost stories so that readers can actually see these places.

I think I am a writer...
'Even if it's only a blog, knowing that others enjoy what you write is more important than any money you may receive, even more so if they return to read more.'
and I can definitely agree with your statement above. Part of the pleasure comes from re-working my words for a better sounding end result. The kudos are just the icing on the top, so I agree one can be a writer even if not paid to write. The love and practise of the art is what is most important.

One thing that has helped me is that I just got this new computer
and the keyboard does what I tell it to. I can type about forty words a minute but my old keyboard sucked and I couldn't type at all on it because it fought me over every single letter. Thank God for decent keyboards. My fingers fly over this like a great guitarist's over a fretboard. What a difference a new keyboard makes. I liked your post/blog a lot. Take care.

Good post. I just wrote that I don't take writing seriously. I am a paid
writer, but if I wasn't getting paid, I doubt I'd write anything but poetry and songs...oh, mustn't forget blogs.

True, Hollee. I remember once shocking someone when I said I would call myself a writer over and above a wife or a mother, but it's true - I was a writer first and foremost and that will always be the strongest urge, so why deny it? It's simply what I AM.

Wiitty - you're right. Writer's write. They can't help it.
They could sooner stop breathing than stop writing.
