I don't believe you harass Christians over what you don't understand
In Leviticus God is teaching an infantile society how to be healthy, take care of the environment and how to be obedient for their own good. I will be brief but about the shell fish: If you eat only those fish with both scales and fins you will leave all the bottom suckers and filter fish to clean the waters and you will be healthy. We would have clean oceans and rivers had we adhered to this law. Christ did come to fulfill the law but not to do away with it. There is nothing God asks us to do that would not make life better for those who do and those who do not obey.

You're British, aren't you?  You just have to be.  Are you married?

Westwend, I guess it is ok to comment to you on DamonLeigh's post
since that is from whence came your comment.  I totally agree with you on the Book of Leviticus.  Not only that, I include in that statement Genesis, Exodus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.  These are the five books of "The Law" as you know.   Jesus came "to fulfill The Law" (his own words).  Everything in those books has been fulfilled by Jesus life, his death and his resurrection.  So, it just seemed silly to me for someone to be saying that they wanted to sell their daughter.  Sorry if I offended you.

I have felt led by the Spirit for some time; and that is why I have come to the cnoclusions I have. You can read my blogs and see.
Like here, with D, here -- He has been led by the Spirit to question and ask why? Leviticus in particular. It is a book written at a particular time for a particular people, and it reflects its times.
If anyone says it is an eternal book in that it is eternally binding upon all people, then there are some matters that need to be worked out -- our entire 21st Century society must change and conform to 6th Century B.C.E. Judaism.
It is a 6th Century B.C.E. Jewish document.
It is not a 21st Century C.E. American (or other) document. It is a relic, and should be considered as such.
Nothing in it should be considered binding.

Looking at the pieces and not the whole (hole)

Fussing over Leviticus is irrelevant and doesn't ask the larger and most significant question found in the foundation of all the Abrahamic traditions.  The most incidious and immoral act was committed by Abraham himself, long before Moses came on the scene, and that was child sacrafice.  Imagine for a moment, you hear a voice telling you to take your son to a high mountain and sacrafice it to God to prove your faith, an act which is accompanied with a promise of greatness and honor among the people of the world.  Would you do it? Would any sane, rational, loving father really set out on such a course to please the voice in his head and do it, looking forward to global greatness?  On this very act, Abraham was "exhalted" above all others and praised for his "courage" and "rightness" with God.  What a shameful and disgusting thing to base a religious faith on, the murder of innocense and the willingness to cut out your own heart (that of your loving, trusting child).  Moses didn't let this one get away, though, when he set up his cult of insanity, the first born male of any living thing was to be sacrificed, for it was "gods" albeit, you could substitute a juicy lamb for the child, in doing, you accept the idea as one which sets you right with your god and binds you to follow even the most absurd and irrelevant commands to follow.  Christianity trumped this by showing that even the Great Almighty set up his "son" for sacrifice to please Himself and prove that His will could be followed "even onto death" with the magnificent promise of having "eternal life" and sitting on the "right hand of God."

Peace,

FR

IT'S EITHER THE WHOLE FISH OR NONE AT ALL
right?
That's the point many of make when we list Levitical ordinances. If you say that one is applicable, then you have to say they are all applicable.
This is where we want those who use the Leviticus passage about homosexuality to explain -- how can this one passage be binding and yet so many others not be binding?
On the subject of the sexuality of shellfish -- how does one know?
We also should check out the Talmud and related Jewish mishra (?) and see what those who have the best knowledge say about these things instead of continuing to approach this from an exclusively Christian point of view.

DL, I found this for you

Hope this helps. It didn't really do anything for me as I love crab, but it does make you think twice.

Shrimp, crab, lobster, clams, mussels, all these are an abomination before the Lord, just as gays are an abomination. Why stop at protesting gay marriage? Bring all of God's law unto the heathens and the sodomites. We call upon all Christians to join the crusade against Long John Silver's and Red Lobster. Yea, even Popeye's shall be cleansed. The name of Bubba shall be anathema. We must stop the unbelievers from destroying the sanctity of our restaurants.

Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

I think having homosexual relations with a shellfish is the greater sin.

Also, this explains why the religious right
thinks that God removed the Apocrypha from the Bible--because its parts originated in Greece.  They don't realize that the Church was invented by the Greeks.  The Church is a fraternal organization.  I wonder that they don't object to the hymns that contain "You are the Alpha and the Omega" --the beginning and the end....

Save your breath, DamonLeigh.

Don't you know that the Bible speaks only the Truth?  Don't you know that it was not men who wrote the Bible, but God?  Unfortunately, God did not give you the ability to see this.  And God did not care enough about the Jews to prevent the Holocaust?  Oh, they even say that God allowed the Holocaust to happen because the Jews lost their way?  We must all pray for you DamonLeigh, that you will find The Way before it is also too late for you, too....  Let us pray....

If you believe all that then you are more gullible than I give you credit for....  That's a joke, son.

DamonLeigh - I can't believe that you really want to sell your daughters
into slavery.   I think perhaps your questions are not from a real and honest desire to know the answers as is your desire to poke fun.   When you really have a heart that desires to know the truth and read the Bible asking the Holy Spirit to show you the way, He will.
