That is just plain rude!
My Mother-in-law gives me really nice gifts. God, I got lucky. The next time that Lucifer blows in on her broom, act really surprised as you walk out the door, because you have something important to do. Like go out and buy a really high pair of boots for the next time that the shit gets deep! I would blatantly tell her that it is your home and while you appreciate the "wonderful" gifts, that they aren't necessary as the maid is just having her day off.

No, seriously
A mop? For real?
That is so . . . ack! I think I'd be coming up with a clever new use for this mop . . . *smile*

And as for the True Anglo topic . . . what is your husband's ethnic background, besides just being "white"? A person's skin color is boring in my book - it's the story of their history that is fascinating. I am Irish and damn proud of it - the storytelling traditions, the firey spirit, the love of poetry, the resiliance of the people - that's the stuff to attach yourself to, not just the fact that you are Anglo. Fubu is a celebration of the hip-hop culture that is uniquely African American - that's damn cool. If he could work an angle like that . . .then you're on to something :)

Love you girl,
kitty cat

Hey since she doesnt think you know how to use one
have her demostrate at least that way your kitchen gets mopped without your having to do it.  I would instantly tell that women to go straight back to hell and I would not stutter

Hey, Mops are Good.
you can always use it for wall art.  Hang it horizontally on the wall.  Tell her it was such a precious gift that you didn't have the heart to use it... You just wanted to be able to look at it and forever remember her generousity.
