yeah
there are things beyond our ken.
god is one of those.
we can only conjecture -- and, like Evangeline, discover in human affairs how god progresses -- god is us, we are god, god is in us, we are in god -- words fail to adequately describe.
then the word god -- inadequate to describe god -- understand what I mean?
the word god puts a sort of definition to what is indefineable.
we have to experience and, in experienceing, come to a better understanding.

Friar Tuck -
I remember reading something about that experiment as well. I had forgotten all about it. I'm going to do a little research to see if there is any information on what happened. Thanks for the reminder and for reading.

Thanks for the post and thanks for reading. I'd be curious to know more about your beliefs.

I've read some of your posts and I see that you are an atheist, which I think is great. I love to get opinions and points of view from every corner - since my understanding of "God" is evolving. I agree also that the God of OT and the God of NT are not the same. Which lends more credence in my mind to the Bible being an expression of beliefs rather that the direct word of God.

I agree that we cannot know the outcome. But I am still trying to "where" the evolution of "God" could go. If it is as you and I seem to agree that "God" is not a person but an "essence" if you will, I'm not sure if that ultimate "essence" could evolve. Since we are all "God" and we are evolving continuously, then from that perspective, God is evolving.

Evolving god no.
God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
He is unchanging and constant.

Well
First you must understand that evolution really does not work in 'steps'. Evolution does not head is any one direction or follow a predetermined path. Remember that mammals evolved back into the water at one point.

Also you are talking about a spiritual evolution compared ot a physically one. The evolution of God would be a growth in understanding. If you take the old and new testament you can see an evolution in God there. If that really is God then can see that God must have seen that he had made mistakes in the OT and tried to fix it all in the NT. If God is aware and is able to think and see and understand then it would just make sense for him to see that as he creations change so must he change to better fit their needs. He would have to evolve along with us and go through a level of spiritual growth himself.

One of my biggest problems with the idea or organized religion is that they will not accept the idea of God needing to grow. They wish to say that God is perfect to begin with and so perfection does not need to change. yet once more the God in the OT and the God in the NT are far from being the same God. Either God grew during that time or there are mistakes in the books. Of course the books could have been written by man in order to make their religion be the most appealing for the time in which they were written.

Of course you must understand that this is coming form an Atheist, who does not believe in God. According to some I am hopeless and will never understand what God is.

The Evolving God
was the subject of Process Theology some fifty or so years ago.  I don't know how that philosophical experiment turned out.  What I do know is that human consciousness of God can evolve and develop.

next step?
humans are the ultimate expression of god on this earth.
humans have evolved into superorganisms - cities, states, countries, religious bodies -- each is very much an organism. These bodies have remained the same for 10,000 years (see H.G. Wells' OUTLINE OF HISTORY).
God's evolution has to be different in different sections of the Universe.
I believe that, on earth, the next evolutionary step involves these superorganisms. I believe they are like dinosaurs. Humans are presently individually, in their minds, evolving past these archaic things. We cannot know the outcome. We can only watch and experience the changes.
