sannhet -- these two examples are probably the closest or have the most

simularities with the bible version. There are many more however of simular theme throughout numerous cultures. Some predating the bible, some written later but devoid of biblical influence in the isolated world of the time. Other bible stories have striking simularities to other cultural beliefs as well. With the great flood, the ten commandments, the story of creation all appearing in earlier works. But this is not to say that the bible itself is completely borrowed from other cultural legends. Some of it surely was but one must always keep in mind that ancient mythology has been interpreted and translated over the years. Quite often presented to us or passed down by those who have been influenced by the bible. So it begs the question: how much of these translations have had biblical influence and simularities written into them?

Gomedome -

This is one I have never heard of. I had heard of Mithra before but had never really researched it. I wonder if there are others? Thanks.

Sannhet -- here's another one to consider

Celtic Folklore: circa 400 BC

Cuchulainn:

Cuchulainn was a Celtic tribal hero, the chief figure in a cycle of Celtic and later Irish legends.  He was said to have been born of a virgin, died and been reincarnated as both father and son, ruler of the heavens. He died bound to a sacred pillar, pierced by arrows, his blood fertilizing the earth.
