yo mark

who said that?

did I say that?

ok let's go with this -- I see where good does not necessarily have to exist with a corresponding evil.

some can be generous without first being stingy or such stuff.

of course we all are such an admixture of good and evil -- if we were lumber being considered for a house, we'd be thrown in the wood chopper.

hey fab

that's true too

they want only what's good for you -- yeah right  -- it's what they want you do do -- their control.

the whole world's a control thing

sanhet

you're right -- the people that created sin also created a god to enforce the laws against sin.

Genesis is a story -- you can see I think the ages old roots of the story -- the metaphor in the story.  the writer had to explain why they weren't in Eden any more.  and it sure wasn't Oz that they were in.

it's like this:  children and other people ask questions.  someone had to find an answer to the question.

The leaving of the garden (hunter-gatherer society) and the Great Flood had roots in actual events -- the Angel with the sword guarding the garden and the Noah's ark story and the rainbow explanation had to be add ons -- an explanation seemed to be needed -- thus the stories.

I'm with you on evil already "being".
In order for there to be good, there has to be evil. You can't have one without the other. And I guess evil could have been defined by Adam and Eve and the apple. But for me, a loving God would not get angry and curse the snake, Adam and Eve and the earth. A loving God would forgive and then forget.

Actually, I think the idea of evil comes from certain people in your life.
For instance, your spouse, or your parents, who don't want you to do certain things because they love you.
