And prevents (or at least lessens)
hangovers!
Hamgovers are mostly a sign of dehydration. So, keeping up the non-alcoholic liquids (as long as they are not sweet - sugar, especially, takes up a lot of water) is always a good tactic
...even if I do prefer my scotch (brandy, rum, tequilla, cognac, ouzo, and so on) straight, without chasers.
