Cyclical History

According to an intriguing cyclical history theory put forth in a book, THE FOURTH TURNING, by William Strauss and Neil Howe, the American people will become less practical and not more during the next, say 15-20 years.  If so, get your ideals out there!  Make sure the best ones actually win!

The problem is that right-wing Christian Bushies have succeeded in turning attention away from our tanking economy (except for the wealthy and the megacorps) and our tanking Iraq occupation (ditto) by getting ordinary people to obsess on "morality" issues:  e.g., gay marriages, choice/abortion rights.  But the country is now divided pretty much 50-50, and I believe the turning point will come sooner than we think. Americans are practical people, they're going to want practical solutions, and the Bushies don't offer any practical solutions.  Just more preemptive wars, more false terrorist alerts, and more tax breaks for the rich.

i think it will take hard times for people to understand -- just like they voted republican for most of the first part of the 20th -- until 32.

i will talk about the other side of that equation -- the frail underpinnings of liberalism -- later.

About that pendulum
We have been talking about that very same pendulum in our household discussions.  I've been trying to convince my husband, the burgeoning radical, that the pendulum always swings and this one is about to.  Hope you're (we're) right!  Rock on!
