Keeping with the spirit of this shindig

I say try it the new cat's. (I have a different idea about how to organize it, but that would be too big a shift for now). How about the ringmasters make an informal quarterly review to check validity?

=Here 'tis the big shift I would suggest: I think we should each get one blog, but have up to, say, four categories per blog. (A standard list of category titles might be suggested to aid searching, but one category title mandatory for all who use it/need it would be "Mature Audience", sometimes an oxymoron at best). You want more categories? Pay more. You want a category on carnivorous plants? Make it. You want two on BN? DO them. And use the "search" feature to find particular subjects instead of trusting to categories.

But NOT NOW. Too big a swing. Maybe not compatible with server or something.

Peace, y'all.

DEAR BN STAFF...

I think the BLOGGING category was a definite must.  However, I'm sorry to say that the rest seem a bit useless, for lack of a better word.  Home/gardening and Pets surely can't warrant devoted categories?  As for the rest, I'm very doubtful over those too.

How about abandoning TECH/BUSINESS category as it is rarely contributed to?  I haven't added to my blog in this category for 5 days, neither has Mihail and we're still in the top three!

It's nice to know that you seek improvements though.  Perhaps you could ask for feedback from the members of BN on their opinions regarding these new categories?  Perhaps I should just stop telling you how to do your job?

Never bloody satisfied, are we?

Thank-you,

Chris

PLUG
Hey BN, Thanks for the Nosey Flynn plug. The thing is, I think if Nosey is in the pets section he may never be read...such a loss to the world of literature.

More categories???
I honestly do not feel we need all those categories.  Perhaps 1 or 2 more, but 9 more???  We already have a ton as it is!  Soon there will be only 1 or 2 blogs per category.  C'mon now.

Re: How about dividing into fiction and non-fiction?

Okohiored, since most of the categories are nonfiction, could you give an example of what would go in a "nonfiction" section? For instance, would it be longer-form articles? We'd like to make sure that the category name would be clear to members.

Categories

Yes, the categories are certainly useful only for focused blogs, such as "Nosey Flynn". For other blogs, the planned Opinion or Journal categories might be appropriate, which would free up the World category for blogs focusing on world news and commentary.

Thank you for the feedback on the top three blogs. Depending on other members' feedback, we may be able to provide other options, such as showing at least one blog from each category, or providing a separate page with this "summary" content.

A Money section

Money catagory  1  of the 4 parts of    USA TODAY

Tech is a completely different catagory than business

everywhere but in California and maybe parts of Mass

Business is not the same as Money.

Money has a broader appeal to us all.

Whatever...

NOT SO SURE ABOUT THIS
I think that a new category for "blogging" was definitely needed. The rest, I'm not so sure about. Many of the blogs encompass a wide variety of things, for example, I've written about the US, opinions, family and more in "Molly's World" . I like having the freedom to change topics. Of course some blogs do have a specific focus, Like Joanne Jacobs Special, but I'd guess those blogs are in the minority.

It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other, except for the part about not having the top three blogs on the front page. I find that to be very useful in summing up what's being read (notice I didn't say what's good!).
