it's when it comes down to the Holy Ghost being part of the Trinity that we come up against the problem we have.

westwend --- when you put it that way it really does come across
as an old wives tale does it not ? A man conceived by a holy spirit? One must appreciate how chastity was viewed back then. Any other form of conception ( like the old fashioned kind ) would not have given the child diety status in the minds of the populace. I would bet if we could prove it we would find that Joseph was the father of Yeshua. In fairness to scripture your edited version with the inconsistancy you unearth is explained away as the Holy Ghost being the spirit of all things including God the Father. But I still don't buy any of it.
