In the cart...

I often pick up laborers in front of the rent a helper places...

they  need a phone # to get inside action

so they offer it up as you get out of the truck.

Of the seven or eight of them I have gotten to interact with

the cart is not the valuables they have to leave it unattended to fit into the world.

The small bag that can go with them everywhere without Billboarding them as homeless

is the treasure chest.

The two guys I personally enjoyed getting to know both kept a notepad closest to them.

In the solitude they write some interesting stuff.

They have saved to read and  remember the deep sound bites of philosphy and poetry in song.

The material world beyond the cloths on their back turns over quickly, be it through charity or

finding it somewhere...or helping themselves to it.

Inherent in your question are values that indicate you will make better choices in life.

If  the adage "but for the grace of God there goes me"

were to come in your direction...  you should Duck... because your Goose would be cooked.

'Stam the man!! Welcome aboard!

Actually, while I haven't been on the streets, I've been pretty broke for  couple of prolonged periods and 1500 miles from family. I found myself making mental and physical adjustments. Heck, transitioning from POV (privately owned vehicle) to rapid transit is a wrench when you CANNOT drive.

There was a wealthy businessman who did that experiment in NYC in the early Sixties, wrote a book, had a TV special, then went native and stayed there!

I could not learn as much in a week as someone who's been there longer. I would make damn sure I had a safety net, and these folks only have the jail as their absolute safety net, so my findings would be corrupted. I might post a list of what I would take if I were evicted. Feel free to do so! Or post about it!

Thanks for the comment!!
