The Way is more about recognizing the innate divinity of the other and serving their needs, trusting that others will recognize the divinity in us to serve our needs. I sometimes realize a little late that I did not look for and recognize Christ in my interactions with another. That makes me more careful and it happens less and less often that I leave an encounter feeling empty or even worse ashamed of my selfishness. But it still happens. We are striving for perfection... If I don't give my best I know it. Others may not. But it is the spark of the divine in me that sees it was demeaned or denied in some way.
