I think this kind of zealotry is more likely where people are poor, hungry and powerless. When things are going good, one probably doesn't think of strapping TNT to onesself..

I share the feeling that democracy in Iraq is near impossible. Much depends how quickly the country can get itself back together. I think they may be a little different than other Arab countries. You probably already know that prior to SoDamn Insane's rule, Iraq had the highest number of PhD's, per capita, in the world. An educated and well fed citizenry will likely be more stable than what we've seen in the past 25 years.
I started reading you because I liked your clever handle and have kept reading because you write so well and have stuff worth reading. Keep it up!

I wonder why they go to such extremes?
As Americans we try and treat our POW's with some dignity. I cannot fathom what is lacking in these animals brains to go to such levels. They put serial killers to shame. I fear that it will only get worse before it will even come close to getting any better. I believe that this is the beginning of many years of turmoil for Americans, as well as other countries.
