You still can do your writing and look for a job. But I do agree with your father.YOu're better of with a job and in your spare time you can do your writing. Well that's the way I do it.

Don't give up!! Your dreams are the heart and soul of your life, to let them die because of other people's negativity would be sacrificing too much. Almost every successful person I've read about has faced this, or other similar obstacles, but they kept on path regardless. Best wishes on your journey.

Dances, you're keeping a log of what you sell and how much you make right? Share that will your dad. Maybe he'll lay off.

though I don't want to accept it, i know you are right.... if the funds do not pick up to a steady flow, i may have to do just that. It makes sense....

Very good point, Kay-Ren

my mom says (knows? is it ok to say i am a good writer?) that I am a good writer.... my dad just knows i am home when he gets home from work, not getting home three hours after him like i used to. he doesnt read my stuff, he has no idea what kind of writer i am , just that i write.

he doesnt see the money coming in and he doesnt see my lifestyle amounting to anything. he wants me to get a "real job"... he is the biggest non-believer of them all.... argh, men!

hi dhruvfoster
Hi and thanks for your message... I can see exactly what you mean... i have been told i am a good writer, but you are absolutely right about the getting-money-out-of-it thing! I have gotten some so far... writing for 5 -6 newspapers now, an online editor, that writeforcash site and some new stuff coming up.... i think its possible but it will take some time to be consistent... if it ever can!

Passion--thank you!

You are so sweet... yes, the cows are about to overrun our town... perhaps that's my cue to get the heck outta here!

hahah... thanks for your very kind words-- you are always able to pick me right back up again.

Compromise

I don't know your situation.  If you need a job to keep from starving, to keep the family from kicking you out of the house, or to keep gas in the car, take one.  Write on the side until the writing can support you.  Many, many writers must.  Just don't give up your dream.  Keep it with you always and you can succeed.

I grew up in a town like yours.  The job options were often planting trees, working at the chicken plant, or waiting tables.  My solution was to move.  It could be what you will have to do too.

If you get to 80
you will have lots of regrets that you never did this and you never did that.  Your first responsibility is to yourself.  If you feel you need to take a job, even on a part time basis do so, but NEVER let go of your dreams! Hang tough Sister. Keep those dreams alive.

I think you are a great writer, and you have what it takes to make it, but are you catching crap from your family because they don't think you are a good writer or is there another reason? There are always at least two sides to the story, and I have to wonder if you understand their side, too?

Keep on dreaming! You are going to be a great success. I have seen it!
With your positive attitude how can you not? Don't let them get you down!

I think it does...It does count if you believe in yourself. Only thing is that your belief should be well based. It better have some foundation. Else it is not a belief, its just a pipe dream.

Considering your writing, well, your belief doesnt seem to be a pipe dream. However, getting money out of writing is a totally different matter.

"the cow-to-people ratio is about even..." LOL! I live in a town exactly like this. Aint it just a hoot? As they like to say way-too-much here in the south.

Dances, you are an excellent writer and you will only get better with age and experience. The nay-sayers will only solidify your resolve and that's what needs to happen more than anything--YOU have to know that you are smart/witty/clever/lucky/funny enough to make it.

The day that you truly comprehend these things, is the day you'll be ready for the life God has for you.

Oh hell! What's wrong with me these days?? I'm all of a sudden philosophical! This shit has to stop!
