lonebutte commented, "I don't know what you and my pal westwend were arguing about, but I'm absolutely amazed that you believe the mainstream/corporate media is liberal.  Are you kidding??!!  And why is it that conservatives love to portray themselves as long-suffering and oh-so-righteous political martyrs being constantly tormented by us nasty old liberals?  Grow up, as Joan would say.  And grow some brains while you're at it"

Growing that brain all the time, my friend, thanks to vigorous conservative analysis of news and events. Beats the daylights out of that mind-stunting liberal stuff. I appreciate your urgings to keep it strong.

And, glad to see you're watching Fox News, since that's the only mainstream media that isn't liberal. But check out ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, PBS and the others sometime. I have a hunch you'll find their perspectives and editorializing more palatable. That's assuming, of course, that they can keep an anti-Bush story going more than a day without having to restract or drop it as being crassly inaccurate, like they have with the preliminary findings of the September 11th commission and the memos that documented the Bush administration's rejection of torture.

We conservatives aren't political martyrs at all, nor are we tormented. But I see and hear the sounds of torment, anguish, misery, agony and downright desperation from the liberal side of the debate. Just compare the tone of conservatives to that of liberals like Michael Moore. Liberalism is flailing about in quicksand. Conservatives stand strong and firm on the solid rock of truth, and we're trying to pull you out.

another apology
I'm sorry
the statement is already made and it's there forever.
it was way out of line.
You'll see I publicly apologized in my blog.
We've got a lively debate here and I shouldn't spoil it with such statements.

let me apologize
you don't lie
your facts are different from my facts.

I've been there.
read lonebutte's thing on the NBC interview with Michael Moore.
That looks like (and the Katy Couric thing this morning) NBC is a propaganda and interrogation arm of the Administration.

interesting how the liberal media hit clinton time and time again and touches bush with a feather encased in kid gloves.

guys -- keep calling things names and lying like I've seen you and the Bushes doing and you take the debate to a lower level

actually you've brought me down to your level and divorced the debate from statement of facts.

wonder whY?

dying breeds - you and I
Right on!
Finally, a decent political discussion.
The media is bias, and it's taught to be that way. I'm a conservative journalist (a dying breed) and you'd be amazed at what they teach in accredited, acclaimed schools! Or maybe not.
Anyway, thanks for thinking for yourself. You too are a dying breed.

Lonebutte's Comment
Media not bias to liberals? What television broadcast are you watching Lonebutte. Obviously your name says it all. Evry nightly news on ABC,CBS,NBC has been heavily biased to the liberals my entire 43 years on this planet. It is so obvious. Where have you been Lonebutte? Obviously alone. It is so funny that the liberals are so jealous of Rush's and Hannity's success and they know that they have no answer to this except for their usual biased Dan Rather's of the world. Lonebutte, you are the one who needs to grow up.

Nicely put! I tend to agree. But at some point labels are needed because that's how our brains work; we need labels in order to categorize information. Liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, all are labels that identify our particular ideologies. What I like about your point is your admonition against putting so much emphasis on labels for their own sake that we lose track of the facts and ideas we want to discuss. That's precisely my complaint against a lot of liberals - they identify people like me as conservatives and immediately attack us personally instead of answering our ideas and beliefs in honest and open debate. Going back to how I started this blog, just look at how Mr. Reagan was smeared before and after his passing for an example. And, like I said, many conservatives do this too, and it shouldn't be so. Thank you for reading!

I've said what I've said
you're saying what you're saying
that's great.
only, to engage in honest debate, labels are a spurious tool at best.
honest debate includes facts.
historically, labels are a stereotyping, a misleading rhetorical tool.
labels have been used as a means of bias and discrimination
as far as I am concerned, they are dishonest.
