Same here..
I think my daughter will just always be a more cautious than other people.  But, overall she's so much better.  Just last night she was at the bookstore playing with a train set with four other kids.  Six months ago the sight of those kids would have had her clinging to me and asking to go home.

Every once in a while her shyness returns, but for the most part it's under
control.

Wow...
Your five year old and my three year old sound amazingly similar.  My daughter was SO shy until the last few months.  Painfully shy, really.  She wouldn't even have anything to do with my parents or my brother.  It made going out and doing anything very difficult.  There has been a miracle as far as I'm concerned because suddenly she is very different.  I was really very worried for awhile that it may be aspergers syndrome or something of the sort.  I'm glad your daughter is into making friends finally, too!

I know what you mean...
MJ wondered into the bedroom at 5:45 a.m. this morning, and now I'm sat downstairs staring bleary eyed at my laptop wondering why the hell my Internet Explorer doesn't work and I have to use Mozilla to browse the web...
