- Go to To Kerry: Old Two-Sides at the World War II Veterans Memorial dedication
And yes, lonebutte, war does indeed suck. But terrorism sucks a heck of a lot more, just like fascism did in the 1930s and early 1940s. I sincerely share your hope that the war on terror will never exact such a cost in lives, but I'm also very aware that the terrorists we fight would gladly see more Americans die than in all of our previous wars. War is evil, but at times it is greviously necessary in order to eliminate a far greater evil. Thanks for reading and replying.

Oh, I just might be a tad conservative . . . thanks for reading!
By the way, any thoughts on Kerry flipping off a real Vietnam veteran at the Vietnam memorial?

no way jose
So once again, WriterofDark, I ask if you would rather have a president who got into a posh unit through family connections, couldn't even deal with that and went AWOL--than a president who served his time and got an honorable discharge? There ain't no way you can spin Mad George's hypocrisy. And there also ain't no way you can spin the patriotism of him and Jane and other antiwar protestors into something negative, who were brave enough to raise serious questions about Vietnam, which helped get us out of where we didn't belong in the first place--sadly, after 58,000 US deaths. I just hope we can do it again in Iraq, way before that many US soldiers end up dying. We have enough war memorials already to last the rest of our history. We don't need another one. War sucks. That's what the lesson of Memorial Day is.
