attax, I wish that you had. I'd introduce you to my Brasilian friends in

Rio and show you the sights, grab your hand and pull you around my beautiful Guadalajara, introduce you to the President of Honduras, if he's back from the Spanish wedding by now and have you over for a wonderful night of fabulous partner dancing with my African friends here in town. Or, I would take that scary trip over to Guine'-Bissau and dance with you there. We could always go to Lome', Togo, where I'd also have a place for us to stay, if the elections haven't caused a coup d'etat as yet. Or, safest African trip of all, we could go to Cabo Verde and just wander around......

Thanks for stopping and reading and leaving comments. Still blog friends?

LadyK, that night of ritual was so much more involved, a post by itself!!
Sounds like your friends were good ones, too !!

Temple, I can see you now in the stair well with us singing along to
the guitarist playing there, all of us up beyond reasonable hours, not studying when we should be and loving the company of like minded women. I loved-hated the dorm experience. I shall never forget it. Thanks for your kind comments, tu Abuelita.

univox, I wasn't sure that I told this one as well as other stories.
I thank you for your very kind comments. I couldn't say all that I wanted to about her as she might eventually show up as a real person with too much descriptive material posted here. I couldn't name her anything for fear of coming close to her real name, which is so much 'her'. I couldn't describe her as I wanted to, but did the best that I could, remaining vague. Thanks again.

dorm.
Beautiful writing that hugs the reader affectionately.  I sometimes wish I had grown up in your universe.

The Loss of Virginity ritual
reminds me of the way my dorm sisters fussed over me as they sent me out the door to my very first date.  GIRLS RULE!

True happiness lies outside our comfort zone.

That's where the riches are, the real ones.  I know people who are always "happy" and don't understand why people are so emotional.  I think that living in your comfort zone is equal to living unconsciously...and once you step out, there will be trouble and pain and confusion.  But, there will be real growth, and that means that the colors get brighter and bolder, as well as the shadows increasing in depth.  I have always lived that way...embrace "other" and change perspective to one of my own, not one of crafting by society or family.  I like this girl.  It seems only natural she would choose you for her circle.

I see your muse has been tickling you a lot these days...I'm glad!  Many Abuelita stories take my mind away.  Excellent, colorful and elegant work...just like you. :)

"rudderless, depressed and fearful"

"She was beautiful in a brown way and Mediterranean, exotic looking."

In addtionto the above being very well crafted, this story has a great and timely message for all of us to take note of and learn by. Only someone with your life experience can present these types of slices. May I never have my fill.
