Again, on the same day, I read another gut-wrencher from you, Neil. The seething unhappiness with the human condition is so apparent under your pen. It eats you alive. I think we have to do what we can, knowing it will never be enough, but never letting that knowledge dampen the enthusiasm in our hearts. For that is where our faith lives, flourishes and replicates -- our heart.
The 12 step programs advocate one day at a time. Maybe we, too, as good samaritans, should focus on how we can help one person at a time. "The Power of One" carries a powerful message. One is where it all starts. What is a mighty waterfall, but a collection of single droplets?
Even if assassins killed some of our greatest leaders, our Gandhi, our MLK, our JFK, didn't they leave their mark? And they were but one. It's not perfect in the world, but the world has improved.
I heard a political pundist remark about how the whole world turns a blind eye to Africa. But that is a cynical point of view. Oprah just started one school for young women, for girls. She is but one, but others are drawing attention to what is happening on that continent. The movie about Blood Diamonds gets word out about what happened in Sierra Leone and is now happening in other countries.
Basically I see what has always been happening in the world, is now occurring with more devastating effects as we develop weapons and child warriors, is accelerating the destruction. It may be a time we are witnessing that is just the beginning of an end to life on this planet as we know it. We humans destroy environment -- the plants, animals, the rocks, the ice, humankind -- with devastating consequences.
We have many people working to counteract these things. Will it be enough, and in time? Each of us must use the resources we possess, and for most of us reading or writing here, it is the power of the pen.
Never underestimate the power of one is my point. Doing our best to BE our very best, every day. It is what He expects. It's ALL he expects. Remember Iguasu Falls in South America on the borders of Argentine, Brazil and Paraguay? The power of one droplet, the power of one. The power of YOU! The power on one.

YPunday, Its been three months since you wrote this. Nothing has changed for the better--never for the better. It is only worse, things get worse every day for the women and the children.

Yes and No, Evangeline. Thanks for reading, but I tried some time back...
I ended up writing a book of poems and a history of Slavery and indenture in Trinidad. Both published by Xlibris, and you may check under "DEO" in their bookstore for a few samples of poems. 'Guess, i have the fun in writing poetry&less frustration w/wrong journals. But our Bloggers have Gd. recommendations. Will try,TY.

I cannot ignore injustice. Most of the time though, what I do not see does not hurt me, though I try to be a global citizen. Thank you for reading and validating.NDeo

Hi Nils,
Incredible. Yes, the women and children continue to suffer, mostly in anguished silence...I believe in God and have faith in His Holy way, but sometimes it's so hard not to question and wonder why...
When I was a small girl, I fantasized about being a Princess. A few years ago, I read books written by a Saudi princess about her life and the lives of other "owned" women around her; her writings dispelled that fairytale once and for all...Thank you for giving a voice to those who cannot yet speak.

who will be left to enjoy the real freedom IF it comes. Means and ends must harmonise for human beings, unless we are building zoos or worse. TY for reading. PSD

beautiful
i have been pondering this middle eastern conundrum. I look at the big picture. I see it as a way to freedom for many oppressed women, not only there but world wide. it is another stepping stone on the path to greater human beings.
