you have to go by your insticts when it comes to your kids
If you are thinking about homeschooling... especially for your reasons ( not to squash their enthusiasm) my opinion is you  should at least try it.

Homegirl...my kids are 5, 3 and 16 months..they can't read, so my writing is safe, however, I don't tend to feel very erotic while changing diapers and practicing letters, so I further think it won't be a problem.  I have to say, though, that my youngest goes to sleep at 7 and pretty much the other two go watch tv, play, 'read stories' to each other whatever, and I get downtime.

I am hesitant about the public shools because my kids are very sheltered and intelligent, and I hate to see that squashed.

What I really am worried about is whether or not I'm being fair to the kids.  Maybe I shouldn't be overly trying to control everything they encounter, you know?  Thanks.

You can try homeschooling for a while. If it doesn't work out, load them off to school. Or keep the weaker one at home for extra coaching care.

regarding homeschooling

By deciding to homeschool you re giving up alot...  There will be many personal sacrifices involved, and on a moral level you children will watch you and do everything you do...

I say this because of the erotica writing...  unless you want you children to emulate you, you will have to find a way to write where they won't know what you are doing...  perhaps not doing it from home, or doing it in the middle of the night, but then when do you sleep..  I spend all day being led around by one of my kids so they can explain and show off their current "project".  They demand alot of attention, and you must prepare yourself for that if you plan to homeshool.

I don't mean to sound discouraging.. there  are many reasons to homeschool... as many reasons as there are people.  My reasons: individualized education, lower stress level, and retention of innocence for as long as humanly possible. (sorry for the book)

"The public education system is a wreck. By the way two of the home schooling groups that I know of here, completed this years requirements two week ahead of the public schools. "...my sentiments exactly.  By the time I was in the 6th grade, there wasn't a reading class at my school high enough to house me...I ended up with one other girl, and a room full of 4th graders!!  We wrote plays, did book reports, basically, wasted an entire year.  I hate to think of that for my daughter.

My mind is nearly made up...now I just have to convince John.  He's on the fence, though, and I am persuasive.Angel emoticon

markd, I love your erotica blog. I agree, I am unsure if I'm willing to be
"just" one kind of writer.  We'll see.  I appreciate it.

Passionflower
It's not me, with the 24/7 that I worry about, but rather my other kids...I think my middle one, my only boy, needs more one-on-one than he's getting.  I will check out homegirl...thanks.

For home schooling
I have had contact with a several home school groups here in town and I'm 100% for them. I've not heard of a single instance here where the kids in the home schooling programs are not in better shape academically that the public school kids. They are also much better behaved and seem to stay out of major trouble. What I suggest is try and find a group of home schoolers. This way your kids will still be interacting socially, one of the things they say is lacking in home schooling, of course I think I would sooner have my kid a bit lacking in social skills than to be associating with some of the other kids in school. Usually these groups will split up the teaching responsibilities so your not caught with trying to do it all. And it also allows the parents to pool resources. Sometimes these groups can get a break from art teachers ect. to add to their ciriculum. Give it some really serious thought, especially if you are in a large city. The public education system is a wreck. By the way two of the home schooling groups that I know of here, completed this years requirements two week ahead of the public schools.

Glad I've brightened your day a little...

I've written erotica in the past as well - the money on that particular genre isn't always great, some get paid big bucks some get paid nothing, but it was a means to an end back then.

I stopped because I didn't want to be stereotyped in that genre, but I've written about this before and several people have told me to go back into it when I raised the question myself.  After all, published is published.  I love your MA blog, so maybe you should give it a go!

Homegirl is a homeschooler. I think if you can do it, you should. Only you know whether you can be with your kids 24/7 and not kill them. Some school districts are better than others. Alot of parents actually need that time their kids are gone off to school each day.
