Top o' the mornin to ya!
Just my opinion, but often the best way to deflect someone's rudeness is with kindness itself. I suspect behind the tactlessness, there is often a sharp mind screaming to be understood (sometimes a not-so-sharp mind, hehe). If all else fails, there's the silent treatment.
