Good suggestion

Be cool if each writer could see how many people had subcribed for notifications for their blog updates too

Sounds good!

Other people definitely want this too, so it just moved up the list! There are still a few other things above it, but it'll get done -- eventually. :-)

Notifications!

Here is a random suggestion:

How about a notification system? Where a reader can list either specific blogs or specific writers or all posts by certain writers, so that when the reader returns to the BN site (or gets notified via e-mail - an option for each selection), they are notified about the blog having a new post or writer having done a new post or blog. And one of the front page sections (bottom left side comes to mind, since it is somewhat empty now) could dedicated to the specific choices made by the reader (i.e., be unique for each reader)!

This would be a major enhancement to know when to come back to the site (if the e-mail notification is chosen) or knowing where to go to first (if shown on the section on the front page). Of course, given the prolific writing by some people (Daily Pundit, for example!), I probably would not put him on my list (too many e-mail notifications!), but would do it for others that I want to read too.

The less prolific writers, but who are read eagerly when they do write, would benefit from this! Otherwise, if they are not prominently on the front page, they may get overlooked, not get enough feedback and revenue, and perhaps disappear!

The point being that there is a fine balance between making sure that the front page information is not hogged too much by the prolific writers - however good they are to read! Otherwise, BN might as well be the same as their personal blogging web site.
