I know exactly what you mean
I have been there myself so many times and refuse point blank to buy extended warranties these days.
The one that made me laugh most recently was when we brought new bedroom furniture - the sales guy then tried to sell us an extended warranty on the furniture itself! What's it gonna do, breakdown? He then advised me that it covered the furniture against accidental damage or breakages; excuse me, isn't that what my household insurance is for. His retort to that was that I would pay more in excess on my household policy than I would on his, but when I checked into it they were exactly the same figure!
And if the bed breaks due to excessive bedroom behaviour, I'm not going to bitch about poor build quality, I'm going to crow at the top of every mountain to my friends about how much of a horny couple in the bedroom we are that we managed to shatter the four-inch thick wooden plynth on our bed!
Grrr.
