Thanks, girls, I love ya all!  Its always gratifying to have lovely ladies lavish attention on me, even if it is just for a post.

And you're welcome, beachbelle.  I thank you.  If not for your posts, this one wouldn't have happened.

Notapoet.
I realize it is impossible to know where the jokes came from. What concerned me yesterday was that people post jokes as if they were the ones to invent them and then when people comment they make out like they thought of it. Why do that? And why not have a go at writing something themselves?
Thanks for the thumbs up on the copyright, plagiarism stuff.

This is so true...give credit where it is due...I've posted a few things myself...what's not original I let them know, it's something I saw and just wanted to share.... Good point.

Thanks, Scriber
There isn't much we can do about copying of ideas, since they are considered free.  We can still give credit where it is due, however.  Its disheartening when an idea is immediately gobbled up by a host of others, and no one says thanks -- or even acknowledges that the originator exists.  But plagiarists tend to be lazy folk, feeding not only on the idea, but also the form, and ultilmately the whole content.  The very lack of originality that causes one to borrow in the first place usually trips up the real plagiarists.  The naive, and those who simply don't because of their novice status, usually mend their ways when it is pointed out to them.

well done; I read a lot of material that I doubt very much is
original. I am probably more concerned with the stealing of ideas which is even more prevelant. s.

I understand the problems with jokes and other material forwarded through email.  In cases like this, it should be mentioned where you got the material, if not from your own memory.  The problem that arises is that many of these people, intentionally or not, are passing on copyrighted material.  By attributing a source, you're at least partially protecting yourself from charges of copyright infringement and/or plagiarism.  I know most of us on Blogit are pretty good about indicating sources.  But a lot of our newer members may not realize that they may be crossing the line when they pass on material without some sort of indication as to where it came from.

There's no way you can post any kind of 'credit' when you use jokes that people send you thru the email. I don't believe anybody really knows where alot of this stuff comes from. If there's credit to give to somebody I think most of us are pretty good about giving it.
