I haven't read details yet of who is buying online and for what reasons. Is it convenience, lack of options (as you mention when a Walmart opening forces other stores to close) or uniqueness of products (which a place like eBay enables) or price (Amazon prices on books are significantly less especially when combined with their free shipping offer -- I was at Borders today and had sticker shock when I bought a couple of books without the Amazon discount)?

And with the Walmart monopoly causing a domino effect of closures in rural areas, such as mine, the growth of internet shopping can only be expected to increase.
