I live near a big city as well
It is just some places go by different standards. I knew a guy who owned aa shop and he was closed on Mondays, so that he could get a free day since he could not afford to hire nay help. That makes much more sense to me than closing down on the second busiest day of business a week.

I guess that I should feel lucky
Everything is open around here seven days a week. Of course I'm close to a major city. I used to live in a small town that shut down early on weekdays, and closed everything on Sundays. Not a good plan for the working person.
