Thank you, Dear.  Kind words are always appreciated.

A very few have already followed my advice with some success in the past.  But, realistically, I expect few to make the effort because of the perceived lack of glamor in most of the neglected categories.  I can't argue with the desire to write and be noticed in the heavy hitter categories.  But for most this is a slow process that might be better accomplished by first (or simultaneously) developing a successful track record where its not only easier, but requires less concentrated effort.

Many a writer has found a successful sideline or a true calling by diversifying.  Putting all of your eggs in one basket is not always a wise approach.  Its a lesson I learned early in life, and that I have to keep reminding myself of.  Besides the challenge, it often turns out to be fun to try something new.

great piece of writing
and linked well with the stats you provided! i wonder how many people will be vying for top ten positions after reading this and how much harder it will become to crack the A list so to speak as a consequence!

If you mean the conclusions I make in the post, they are conjecture based on the statistics.  If you mean advice I give to others, it is personal opinion that may or may not be based on statistics.

Was this Based on Opinion or Statistics? just Curious!

I wish you luck, Softy
Just don't let pursuit of a spot in the overall Top 10 alter the character and purpose of your writing.  Be true to your heart and take what comes.  I've never made it to the overall Top 10, and doubt that I ever will, even though I think I know how.  I'm not interested in making the compromises and outright changes in my purpose here that it would take.  Its a decision that all but the most talented of us eventually have to make.

As long as I have a few fans like you, I'll keep plugging away at it.  Hearing from you helps to make it all worthwhile.

Thank you, Darlin' for your kind words.  There is a great deal of work involved, but some of it I do every day to track my own progress, or lack of same.  The extra work is the result of my belief that this simple tracking, if carried a step beyond, could be useful to other bloggers looking for positive results for their efforts.  A plus for me is that I can do it while promoting writing rather than individual writers or bloggers.  In other words, I try to provide a way for each writer to fit his or her talents and interests into a plan that can work rather than telling them to imitate blogger x, y, or z.
