methinks I'd rather meet the shark . . . and it sure ain't cuz I'm adventurous *grin* . . . see . . . if I met Mr. Shark on land, he wouldn't be able to do quite so much damage. If I ran into a Polar Bear in the water, however, I'd still be dinner

In all seriousness though, based on everything I've read, if one can bring themselves to act calm and just swim normally, as opposed to flopping around in a panic and looking for all the world (to the shark at least) like a wounded fish, one is much less likely to get eaten. I don't know, though, what could deter a Polar Bear in the same way. Thus - I'll take the shark.

Polar Bear, I'm not that comfortable in the water...
and if I were hiking in Polar Bear country you can bet I'd be carrying a very large gun just in case.
