Swimming with the pink dolphins

We just got back from Sentosa Island... That's the southernmost spot of land in Southeast Asia, and is where Singaporeans (and a lot of other people) spend their Sunday. It is resorts and recreational beaches and attractions, like the Dolphin Lagoon and Underwater World. We went to both today. We... Sign in to see full entry.

Yesterday I got caught in the rain...

In less than 2 minutes, I was drenched, but it was not a bad sort of drenched... the rain is warm and friendly, almost maternal the way it embraces you, cools the air and makes the humidity inconsequential. I was walking home from the Botanic Gardens, one end of which is only a mile or so from where... Sign in to see full entry.

A quick thank you...

to all of you who have been following this travelblogue and especially those who have been commenting. I don't always have access to the keyboard here, so there is not always time to thank each of you with individual responses, but I have been trying to keep up and I do appreciate every visit! Taps,... Sign in to see full entry.

Excellent place to acquire those souvenirs for friends and relatives without actually breaking the bank, but still finding... Sign in to see full entry.

Tapas by the Singapore River with Asian Mariachi band...

Deelicious bits of this and that--prawns and garlic, chicken in a creamy sauce, scallops on the shell, baked with saffron, calimari, chorizo sausage... It's a sort of all-appetizers cuisine. Marika and two friends downed two pitchers of red sangria. That was dinner out on Clarke Quay last night,... Sign in to see full entry.

Everyday Things in Foreign Places

When traveling, I love to shop for the everyday little items that are different from the ones at home. Then, when I am at home doing the dishes with the sponge from Rome, or writing a note on the notebook from Singapore with the pen from Arab Street, I am reminded how large (and small) the world is!... "With your nose between your knees..."

I am here, after all, to spend time with Marika, and she is doing yoga twice a week these days, and taking a class in belly-dancing. In this hot and humid world, slow stretches seem to me more realistic than gyrations and wiggles, though I know how much fun that can be, too! But, for the record, it... Sign in to see full entry.

Morning Anthem

I have always loved waking to hear the first calls of the first bird of the day. It is especially wonderful here, listening to the melodic song of what my daughter tells me is one of three kinds of mynah birds that are as common as crows and sparrows back home. There is a bird park here, too, that... Sign in to see full entry.
