Speaking (again) of the Subway

The Subway Experience in New York City is, nowadays, quite different from the one I wrote about previously here. The cane-seated cars are gone, and I don't think you can open the windows anymore as you could in those old cars. But they have air-conditioning in some cars. The outsides--well, graffiti... More new photos

Now edited and better than the ones I posted in flickr previously--will be taking those early ones down one of these days! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/D0zC53 I may have missed out on all the glorious colors that got frozen out in Colorado Springs, but these made up for it! Photos!

Window Seat: Denver to Seattle to Denver in October 2019 https://flic.kr/p/2hGFZdA click here, then to the left for the correct chronological order (For reasons I've written of elsewhere, the sunset photos of Mt Rainier were the only shots from the Denver to Seattle end of the trip. You might notice... Sign in to see full entry.

New York and the Scary Subway

A lot of people are dubious about going underground in New York City. The noise, the shadows, the strange cinder- and uncleaned-bathroom-scented winds... the other people, whom you can see walking through--but maybe not... That romantic show back in the 80s, was it? probably gave a few dewy-eyed... Sign in to see full entry.

The American Museum of Natural History: old and new

Just up: best moments and pictures at the American Museum of Natural History. This latest visit caps--for now!--my lifetime of visits to AMNH/Hayden Planetarium, where my dad worked, creating the job now filled by Neil DeGrasse Tyson. The dioramas in the dim-lit halls of Africa, North America... the... Sign in to see full entry.

Fuguey day...

That state of mind where thoughts wander around randomly, with no particular focus... sleep is disturbed by weird dreams... Most of the day I just wanted to go back to bed. Only three days away, only two time zones, and still, jetlag. I've put up a few photos... Sign in to see full entry.

New York, New York!

Arrived in New York at LaGuardia around 9:30, got a Yellow Cab to the hotel in mid-town Manhattan, showered off the sweat and now, ready for bed... except body-time, it is only 9pm--just a bit early! The temperature is only around 80, but the humidity is higher than I'm used to, though it isn't as... Sign in to see full entry.

Travelblogue: Food edition

I have been seeing this "omuraiso"--a Japanese meal of eggs and rice, served up on Facebook lately, and decided to experiment with it myself. It has not been a great success in form, though the tastiness is there. Then today, I found this: https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=JRJER9VakQg Apparently, a... Sign in to see full entry.

Rocky Mountain National Park in spring thaw

https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/21U81Z Neither my sister nor I have ever made the drive to the top of the park, just over 11,000 ft, in spring. So here are mountains still with layers of snow--where the road cuts through them, you can see the deposits of the winter storms in their sequence.... Sign in to see full entry.

And just a few more pictures...

I almost forgot, I was saving this batch to process and post all together. This is the garden around the Pagoda of Monk Wangsong--which means Yellow Mountain--over the course of our visit. It was right around the corner, nearly, from our hotel, and we paid it 3 or 4 visits, mainly because I wanted... Sign in to see full entry.
