Continuing

It seemed like an hour had past before Tole' heard the twigs and leaves creating a rhythmic symphony of two men walking back toward his spot by the tree. He made his breathe shallow so he could hear better. Sure enough, the two agents were getting closer. Would they stop at the vehicle or keep moving his direction? Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter ???? Continued

Before Tole’ could even make an adequate assessment of his injuries, the sounds of snapping twigs and shuffling leaves gripped his awareness like a rabbit who suddenly became aware of the fox moving in for a kill. He knew the pattern of those sounds. Tole’ held his breath and listened; two humans moving down the slope toward him. He moved quickly and silently up the slope and to his right. When he reached a large sycamore, he stopped and knelt beside it; hugged the tree as closely as he could.... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter ???

Chapter???? After just a month in Washington, Tole’ was looking forward to a week off at his cabin; a time to kick back an connect with friends; a time to bask in the forest sun and sounds; a time, frankly, to figure out the torrent of events of the past month. For now, as he was driving the last 4 miles into his place, Tole’ tried not to think about things. Putting his awareness into his tan tien, he focused on “filling the bowl” with each breath. At the same time, he pulled chi up through the... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter Two (Finally)

Chapter 2 WASHINGTON - Department of Interior, Disaster Relief Ted Bracken read over the report one more time, noting the frequency that Anitole’ Sebastian’s name appeared. He glanced over at his assistant Secretary of the Interior, Tom Kohl. “Who is this Anitole’ guy?” “Some Native American, SOB; local hero after the tornado.”, Tom was prepared for the question. “According to the Bureau, he’s clean.” Viet Nam Vet, too!” “Get this guy on the phone! He’s just what we’ve been looking for.” Tom... Sign in to see full entry.

Tole’ ran past the crumpled ambulance. He knew the keys would be inside the station. "Would it start? Was it drivable?", he was already thinking of other alternatives. He found the key cabinet and began pouring through key sets. "Good, they are labeled!" he spoke the words out loud. One set was marked, "ambulance". He stuffed the other keys in his pocket just in case, then thought better of that in case others would need to use any of the other trucks. The engine started right up, and by... Chapter One Continued Some more

"Tole’!" Anatole froze in instant still alertness. "Tole’!" There it was again. It was no stressed imagining, no mirage born of exhaustion. Tole’ was not tired, he was energized. "Tole!" This time he answered, "Over here!".... "Oooh-Ahhh", he repeated the woods signal of their youth. "Tole’, where are you?", the voice was getting closer. Tole’ recognized the voice. It was his best friend, Ed. Anatole had known Ed since grade school. Ed tended just slightly toward the heavy side, Tole’ more tall... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter One Continued

Tole’ stood up. His head began to spin; he felt lightheaded and dizzy. He dropped his head and began to bend forward slowly one vertebra at a time. Suddenly all Tole’s consciousness focused - all he could hear was the deep roar of the retreating tornado. It filled his consciousness so that as it grew fainter his awareness of it grew sharper. The net effect was that Anatole' was never without that sound in his awareness. But in this moment, Tole’ became aware of another sound, the sound of pain,... Sign in to see full entry.

Story continues

For following so closely on the tail of his first awareness of pain, were the second and third blows that except for precise scientific measurement, any man would have called them simultaneous. Simultaneous or serendipitous, the third blow was rendered expertly to the hands now covering his forehead and eyes. The object(s) was/were sharp, piercing his hands completely -- but just what it was he would never know for fear of taking his hands away from his eyes. Tole’s mind cleared. He noticed that...
