Home to Port

My paycheck won't be mine until Andy gets us back to Seattle. The season ended a day ago and now we are relaxing in a local bar, celebrating the fact that we survived this season and that we got our quota just in time. A double celebration really. We are also, in a way, remembering those who didn't... Sign in to see full entry.

Numbers

Two days left in the season and the weather decides to give us a good farewell beating with heaving waves and storm force winds. I guess it's mother nature's way of saying; '' Now you got your job done, it's best that you leave as soon as. And don't forget, I could sink you if I feel like it.'' Two... Five Thousand Pounds

Five thousand pounds left. We have five thousand pounds to catch and that's it, no more fishing. But the sea is being stubborn, making our lives difficult and dragging out the day and the night. Lucky for us we got a chance to sleep and and eat before this string. So far we have pulled one and half... Sign in to see full entry.

I Wonder About Stellan

Mason couldn't wait for the moment when we docked at the end of the season. We still have half a week left until the end and it's nothing but work and no sleep. Any break we get between strings, we don't spend talking to each other. We are zombies, sitting in the galley drinking coffee and staring... Sign in to see full entry.

Mortality

There were five on the Sea Eagle. Now that the boat was gone, we had to wait to find out who of her crew were left. We knew two were saved and one perished. But the captain and one deckhand still weren't accounted for when we left the scene. Every captain was on the radio, buzzing with interest in... Sign in to see full entry.

The End of The Sea Eagle.

The mood on this boat is as dark as the sky outside. The fisherman didn't make it. George and Gary waited until the coast guard came to get him. I took Mason inside to the wheelhouse where my uncle and I are taking care of him. I must have done some damage to myself; I can't twist or turn my body in... Sign in to see full entry.

Doubt

God how I wished it was over right there. That everyone was safe, that the chaos was over. But the Black Hawk was still hovering above, the fire still burning. Large flames lick the air, smoke still pouring from the Sea Eagle. Andy stands by the door of the wheelhouse staring out at the boat.... Sign in to see full entry.

The Sea Eagle

I will try and tell you what has just happen but I still haven't gotten over the shock and I can't think that straight. We sailed back down to the fifty pots waiting for us. Hopefully they were full of crab and my uncle's favorite fishing 'sweet spot' was still as sweet as before. The weather up... Sign in to see full entry.

Returning from the Ice or Heading towards Danger.

''Wow'' we all gasp as we see the ice. It's like a sheet of white extending from one end of the horizon to the other. ''It's growing fast too.'' George says. ''Temperatures dropping and constant snow. It's just going to get worse.'' We are all out on deck, ready for fishing. We are nearing the string... Sign in to see full entry.

The Beginning of the Long Night Ahead

''God, it's really coming down now.'' Andy says. I'm just up in the wheelhouse refilling his coffee mug. I look out at the thick curtain for snow, unrelenting and heavy. ''At least the wind hasn't picked up yet.'' ''Yeah...yet.'' The guys are out on the deck breaking off the chunks of ice that seem... Sign in to see full entry.
