Woman attacked at Pennsic

In case anyone on Blogit is in the SCA and happened to be at Pennsic this past year please read this. People need to remember that there are bad people everywhere and that people shouldn't forget about personal safety. The original missive can be seen in a thread on PennsicNet:... What's new with me in the SCA!

Well, my name SCA name (Colete de Valenciennes my 14 th century French persona) got passed so it’s official. However, my device got returned. Something about the colors are wrong. So it’s back to the drawing board for that. I’ve also officially taken over as chronicler for the local group. I publish... Sign in to see full entry.

Military Traditions

There’s a tradition in the military (or there was…let’s just say the Air Force isn’t what it used to be) of when you make rank you have to do or go through the gauntlet. This is where everybody who out ranks you lines either side of the hallway. Then you “walk the gauntlet”. You walk down the... Sign in to see full entry.

My first earthquake

Back in 1998 I was sent with about half of my squadron to Jaco Tenente, Italy. We had a nice site on a mountain. I went for Kosovo. There wasn’t an actual base or anything like that, so the military rented this nice hotel for us to stay at and we had like 2 or 3 white vans that would drive us to... Sign in to see full entry.

Morals and the Military today.

I remember while being in the military that integrity was pushed a lot. Also, “if you are going to drink don’t drive.” “Be responsible and have a designated driver.” Sorry, but the majority of the time this is BS. It seemed like at every base and squadron always said the above but would turn around... Sign in to see full entry.

Who are these people that hit each other with big sticks?

I've had some questions lately about the SCA so I'm reposting this article from Monday, July 12, 2004. "Who are these people that hit each other with big sticks?" They are people in the SCA or Society for Creative Anachronism. These people are dedicated to researching and recreating the Middle Ages... Sign in to see full entry.

What I discovered when I separated from the military (honorably of course) you don’t “get” the same respect as someone who retires. Even though you did stay in longer (I stayed in 8 ½ years). I did get a plaque from my squadron, which was nice and I was happy with that. My husband, bless his heart,... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumsfeld and armor

With the current uproar of Donald Rumsfeld talking to the troops and the subsequent findings that it was a reporter who got a soldier to ask the question, got me thinking. While I was in the military this is what happened when the “Big Wigs” or VIP’s would visit and we were allowed to ask questions.... Sign in to see full entry.

Infantry Graduation

This past Friday the family went to Fort Benning for Jesse’s cousin’s graduation from Infantry school. I must say it was very exciting. They did a little demonstration before the ceremony. Where they set off gas and had blanks in M16’s and different guns going off. They charged the audience and did... Sign in to see full entry.

Kuwait June-August 1996

I was just listening to No Doubts first album (or the first album that had hits like I’m just a girl, etc.) It got me remembering when that came out my unit was sent to Kuwait. This was back in June/July of 1996. I was there originally to be a surveillance technician (identify aircraft flying). Then... Sign in to see full entry.
