Career change possible?

I've always fancied myself a writer. I've written screenplays, stories, personal experience articles and essays. None have been published in any publication that was noteworthy so perhaps my writing ambition is quixotic. Ideally, I'd like to write about politics for anyone who would have me. Not... I have run larged departments for a Fortune 500 company. I have run my own incorporated business for over 5 years. I have always been engaged politically and I have always fancied myself as a writer. I'd like to end my business career and take up political writing.
