Levels of Love

You-look-fabulous made a comment on my earlier post about professing love falsely being a lie. I guess that's true. But it brings up an interesting point. Jesus said to love one's neighbor as one's self. So if one tells someone they love them, and if one believes in what Jesus is trying to say in this statement, then how can one be lying? If one is to love one's neighbor as one's self, and one loves one's self, then one loves them all. The neighbor next door and the one down the street. Ones... Sign in to see full entry.

It's a Conditional Love!

I finally got it! It took me a while, but I got it! I was reading the Bible earlier today and was in Matthew, reading about Jesus taking a whip and clearing out all of the money changers and those selling doves out of his temple. And as I read this, it became so obvious to me. Jesus didn't love those guys. That's why he kicked them out. So in John 15:12, when Jesus says to love one another as he loved us, he was actually saying "I love you and you, but not you." He must not have loved those in... Sign in to see full entry.

Genocide, Slavery and Religious Intolerance in the Bible?

A recent article compared the morality of the Bible’s time with the morality of today. In the Bible genocide (Joshua 6:21), slavery (Genesis 9:25), the killing of slaves - as long as it is a slow death - (Exodus 21:20-21) and religious intolerance (1 Kings 18: 17 – 40 – 450 prophets of another God are killed) were all acceptable acts. This means that God accepted death as punishment. So, does this mean that if one believes in the innerrancy of the Bible, that genocide, slavery and religious... Sign in to see full entry.

God Will Evolve

My last couple of posts on the evolution of God and the accompanying comments continue to make me think. Westwend mentioned in an earlier comment that God’s evolution will be different in each section of the Universe. This is a fundamental aspect of some mystic traditions. The idea is that whatever God is, it/he/she cannot be known. Only aspects, or pieces, can be known. This is because each person is going to experience God just a little differently. So my God is different from your God, even... Sign in to see full entry.

Can God Really Evolve?

I've been thinking a lot today about the concept of an evolving God. While it does seem logical that "God" should evolve like everything else (which I stated in my last post) maybe that isn't true. If "God is the universe is an organism" as Westwend so nicely puts it, what would "God" evolve into? What would be the next step? Or if God is nothing but love, as I posit (which really is not far off from how Westwend describes "God"), what would the next step in its evolution be? I'm having some... Sign in to see full entry.

The Next Step in God's Evolution

If one believes in the theory of evolution (the concept that there are those that don’t, who believe that the fossils found by scientists of various animals dating back literally millions of years is just a hoax played out by the devil, just floors me – though if that is one’s belief, so be it) then one would assume it can’t be that difficult to see God in a state of evolution. Initially, when Man was a hunter and gatherer, Animism was developed. This belief focused on the idea that all things,... Sign in to see full entry.

Wouldn't God Want to Move Past Judgement and Anger?

I've been reading Westwend's "God is the Universe is an Organism" blog and it has got me thinking. He is absolutely right. Everything evolves. Everything moves forward. Nothing moves backward. It's the nature of things. So then must our concept of God move forward. The God of Christianity has evolved from Egyptian gods and Persian Gods and Babylonian Gods to what it is today. But who is to say the evolution is over? Some of the bloggers that I read who tend to be less conservative see "God" as a... Sign in to see full entry.

Chritian (and Jewish and Muslim) Mystics Truly Understand

I am fascinated by Christian mysticism. A Christian mystic is a person who believed that "God" was attainable to everyone. They did not believe in a personal God that was unnattainable. St. John of the Cross, St. Teresa of Avila, St. Augustine, Thomas Merton, these are just a few who felt that one could come close to touching "God" through reflection within, though some, like St. John of the Cross, saw the journey toward "God" as perilous and frought with danger and the possibility of death.... Jesus Wasn't Mithra. He Was Horus

Westwend or Gomedome mentioned that there were several ancient Gods that had stories very similar to the stories of Jesus in the Bible. In doing research, I found several. One of the closest parallels is the birth stories of Jesus and Horus, an Egyptian God from several centuries prior to Christ. Those similarities include: Both conceived of a virgin Horus' mother was Meri; Jesus' was Miriam (Mary) Foster father: Horus - Seb (Jo-seph); Jesus - Joseph Birth heralded by: Horus - the star Sirius,... Was Jesus Mithra?

I’ve been doing more reading on Mithra, the Persian God that became the Roman God in 1 BCE. And while I still believe Jesus was a living, breathing man, the similarities between Mithra and Jesus make one wonder about the "stories" surrounding him. Similarities between Mithra and Jesus: Both born of a virgin in a stable on the winter solstice--frequently December 25 in the Julian calendar (the emperor Aurelian declared December 25 to be the official birthday of Mithra, circa 270 CE)--attended by...
